CPR's winter pledge drive is nearly over, and we'll celebrate the conclusion with a special broadcast at 6 p.m. Thursday: the Philadelphia Orchestra playing Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony No. 3 at Carnegie Hall.
The program, recorded earlier this week, also includes Richard Strauss’ “Metamorphosen” and Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto No. 1 with Johannes Moser on cello.
In a review, the New York Times said the "long and engrossing program never felt long":
And the evening ended with an all-out, full-orchestra romp through Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony that somehow seemed to combine the grace of figure skating with the plummeting thrills of downhill racing.
