CD of the Week | Anne-Marie-McDermott Plays Bach

This week CPR celebrates new Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival Artist Director, as Anne-Marie McDermott Plays Bach.  The internationally renowned pianist has just released an exquisite all-Chopin recording, but we chose to accentuate her highly-praised Johann Sebastian Bach series to display the intricacies of her artistry.  As one listener put it, McDermott "removes his powdered wig and gives us a view of Bach, the flesh-and-blood human... and she does it with élan and impeccable musicianship."

While swept up in her new administrative duties at the Bravo! festival in Vail, she's not skimped on playing there throughout the summer, having performed during many of the summer's 40 chamber music events.  The Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival ends Wednesday of this week with a Two-Piano Extravaganza featuring McDermott, Joyce Yang, Stephen Prutsman, and Jean Efflam-Bavouzet.

Anne-Marie McDermott Plays Bach features the English Suites 2 & 3 as well as the Partitas for Keyboard 1 & 2.  Hailed as "an impressive Bachian," Anne-Marie McDermott's celebrated recording of these four complete works for solo piano was honored as a Gramophone Editor's Choice and declared by Australia's The Bulletin as "one of the must-have compact discs of the year" at the time of its original release in 2006.  It's every bit as delightful today.
