New CD of the Week | San Francisco Ballet Orchestra: Delibes: Sylvia, Coppelia

On sale now here.

A new recording from the orchestra for the oldest professional ballet company in America.  The San Francisco Ballet was also one of the first dance companies to have its own orchestra.

The San Francisco Ballet Orchestra's latest recording presents extended suites from Sylvia and Coppelia, two ballets by the French composer, Leo Delibes.  Pieces of these ballets have repeatedly been used in films dating back to the earliest "talkies".  Delibes' music is also a favorite of the cartoon series "The Simpsons."

Martin West, appointed music director & principal conductor for the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra in the fall of 2005, conducts these performances.
