ACME, the American Contemporary Music Ensemble, visits Denver next week for an evening at the Newman Center and a visit to the CPR Performance Studio.

The group has received praise from NPR, the New York Times and Time Out New York,  and includes composer/violinist Caroline Shaw, who won a Pulitzer Prize in 2013 for her piece “Partita for Eight Voices.”

ACME will help perform live accompaniment of “The Miners’ Hymns,” a film by Bill Morrison with a score by composer Johann Johannsson, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Newman Center. The Denver Brass will also contribute to the live score.

"The Miners' Hymns" examines British mining communities using a century’s worth of archival footage, and Johannsson’s score borrows heavily to the brass band music often performed in mining camps in the early 20th century. Scroll down to see the trailer and sample the score.

Before the Newman Center performance,  ACME and Johannsson visit the CPR Performance Studio for a broadcast and interview with CPR Classical’s Monika Vischer airing at 1 p.m. Monday, with a rebroadcast at 7 that evening.

As a preview of ACME's visit, CPR Classical will broadcast the group’s recordings, as well as recordings of pieces by several of the group’s members, at 8 p.m. Saturday. Hear music from Shaw, violinist/composer Caleb Burhans, Johannsson and others.

For more music from ACME and its members, check out this playlist (it requires a Spotify account, which is free for Facebook users). It includes pieces from ACME’s two CD releases, (Williams Brittelle’s “Loving the Chambered Nautilus” and Joseph Byrd’s “NYC 1960-1963”); contributions to the Grammy-winning Roomful of Teeth disc from Burhans and Shaw; music from Burhans’ looped violin-and-guitar duo itsnotyouitsme; and ACME cellist and artistic director Clarice Jensen featured in a Nico Muhly piece.
