The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado has publicly requested more information about the Colorado Springs’ police department’s internal investigation into a traffic stop.

Ryan Brown recorded the incident in question last winter when Colorado Springs police pulled him and his brother over. Police eventually pulled Brown from the car, handcuffed him, and stopped the recording. His brother was cited for driving with a cracked windshield.

The ACLU disagrees with the department’s conclusion that the stop was conducted properly.

Brown, who is African-American, filed a complaint with the department and says the entire incident was driven by racial profiling. He recently received a letter from Colorado Springs Police saying the officer’s behavior was justified, legal, and proper.

In response, the ACLU of Colorado has filed a public records request for the internal investigation into Brown’s complaint and says it is deeply disappointed with the department’s conclusion.
