Colorado Has Nation’s Lowest Obesity Rate

Colorado has the nation’s lowest adult obesity rate, according to a new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report. But the news isn’t all good: Even in Colorado, obesity is up sharply over the past 25 years.

Roughly 20 percent of Colorado adults are obese. That’s double the number in 2000 and three times what it was in 1990.

Al Lang, with the Trust for America’s Health says one bright spot in Colorado is for those between the ages of 10 and 25. Only about 11 percent of them are obese.

“So if that can continue and they can keep staying at a healthy weight, Colorado will start to revert back to where they were in the 90s,” said Lang.

The data, from the CDC, shows states in the South and Midwest have the highest obesity rates.
