More votes could be cast in Tuesday's runoff mayoral election between Mary Lou Makepeace and John Suthers than in last month's full city election.

The Gazette reports that 86,607 ballots were returned Monday, which is only 2,359 fewer ballots than in the full election. The runoff was triggered because no mayoral candidate got more than 50 percent of the vote last month.
