The only thing standing between the bill to renew a Denver metro cultural tax and the November ballot is now a signature from Gov. John Hickenlooper.
If signed, it's then up to voters across seven counties to decide this fall if the Scientific Cultural and Facilities District will be extended for 12 more years.
The SCFD awarded more than $50 million last year to around 270 organizations. Under the new bill, voters would be asked to change how that money is split if they approve the tax extension. Smaller groups would get a bump in funding, but some have said the increase is not enough. In response, SCFD officials recently announced a new grant for smaller groups that have committed to serving diverse audiences.
