Denver Youth Hostel Shut Down For Fire Code Violations

Officials say dozens of people staying at a youth hostel in Denver have been displaced after the building was evacuated because of multiple fire code violations.

Denver Fire Department spokeswoman Melissa Taylor tells The Denver Post that a task force, comprised of staffers from several agencies, was called to the hostel Tuesday afternoon. She says the group found "serious" fire code violations.

A fire department investigation has determined the building was unsafe and should not be occupied.

The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army have opened a temporary shelter for 48 people displaced by the youth hostel's closure.
