Durango Students Suspended Over Alcohol, Pot

A Colorado high school has suspended seven members of its boys cross country team after discovering marijuana and alcohol in their hotel room.

The Durango Herald reports that the Durango High School athletes were staying in a hotel Saturday before returning from a meet in Arizona.

Head coach David McMillan discovered marijuana paraphernalia after learning that one boy had become sick. He says the students who reported the illness to him are "the real heroes."

Durango School District 9-R spokeswoman Julie Popp says more than seven students might have been involved in the incident, but the district doesn't release information about team members who go to charter schools, private schools or are home-schooled.

She says team practices have been suspended indefinitely during an investigation.
