Would Buddha kill a prairie dog if it couldn't be relocated?

That question has taken on political life at Naropa University in Boulder. The Daily Camera reports 10 protestors waved signs Sunday in front of the Buddhist-inspired university objecting to plans to exterminate around 100 campus prairie dogs.

University spokesperson Bill Rigler has said the school tried for four years to find a suitable relocation site for the colony before filing a lethal control permit.

That didn't close the possibility of moving the animals. Individuals and organizations had 60 days to step forward with possible relocation alternatives, but that comment period closed Sunday.

Deanna Meyer worked on a prairie dog relocation project in Castle Rock before joining protestors in Boulder. She says "a Buddhist university should never file for a lethal permit."

Naropa will have 18 months use the permit if it's approved.
