Reminder: Free Bus And Train Service New Years

Metro Denver's Regional Transportation District is offering free New Years bus and train service, from 7 p.m. Thursday through midnight on Saturday, Jan. 2.

The free service has been offered for the past 25 years to discourage drinking and driving on the holiday, and RTD spokeswoman Julia Marvin says that with high passenger volume, riders should plan accordingly for the evening.

"We really want to encourage everyone to be safe and not to drink and drive on New Year’s Eve. And so it’s a great service to take advantage of," she said.

The system's trains and buses will run on a weekday schedule on New Year’s Eve and a Sunday-Holiday schedule on Friday and Saturday.

After midnight Jan. 2, one-way local fares will go up to $2.60 for a one-way ticket, but riders have the option of a local day pass for $5.20 if they’re planning a round-trip or need to take multiple trips in one day.
