State Health Insurance Marketplace Sees Spike In Signups

So far this fall, signups in Colorado for health insurance through the state’s marketplace are up sharply from last year. That's despite questions about the future of the Affordable Care Act under a Trump presidency.

More than 16,000 Coloradans selected health coverage through the state’s exchange, Connect for Health Colorado, during the first two weeks of November.

“Right now we’re tracking for plan selections a little over 30 percent ahead of last year when you look at it cumulatively so it’s a really, really good year for us," said Kevin Patterson, the exchange’s CEO. “I thought we’d do better than last year, but this is a pleasant surprise.”

He believes the uptick seems to be following a national trend at other state exchanges, and that targeted messaging to those eligible and the availability of subsidies may explain the spike. The day after the election was one of the busier days so far with more than 1,400 signups.
