A controversial painting is being taken down as part of a display of public artwork in a city building in Denver. The work of art shows a police officer with a white hood pointing a gun at a black child. Behind them, the confederate flag breaks through the American flag.
Denver’s police chief expressed concerns about the portrayal of police – as did several police unions.
"I look forward to having a conversation with the student and her parents," said Denver Chief of Police Robert White in a statement.
In a statement, the city says the student created the painting as part of a class project inspired by two other pieces of art. Mayor Michael Hancock says the student has asked that her painting be taken down after learning of the negative reaction.
