New express lanes on U.S. 36 between Denver and Boulder are working as expected, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

CDOT says that so far 278,000 user transactions have been recorded for HOV carpools and another 947,000 for the toll lanes. The new lanes opened in July are aimed at easing congestion.

No revenue information was released, but about 97 percent of the monthly license plate toll bills were under $15. And officials say buses have traveled at expected speeds.

An expansion of the lanes from the Louisville exit into Boulder is expected to open early next year.
