19 Tigers Head To A Colorado Sanctuary After PETA Lawsuits

Nineteen tigers are coming to a Colorado wildlife sanctuary after People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals objected to their living conditions in zoos in two other states.

The Oklahoman newspaper reports the tigers are the subject of federal lawsuits against Dade City's Wild Things, a zoo in Florida, where they started out, and Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Oklahoma, where they were sent by the first facility.

The Oklahoman reported Wild Things sent the tigers to Oklahoma in July, "allegedly to avoid a court-ordered inspection by PETA."

The Oklahoma zoo reached a deal with PETA to send the tigers to The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, east of Denver. The 720-acre refuge is home to about 450 rescued animals including lions, tigers and bears. It bills itself as one of the largest carnivore refuge centers in the world.
