Acrobatic yoga or acro-yoga was a hit at this year's Wanderlust festival in Snowmass Village near Aspen, Colorado, over Fourth of July weekend.

Thousands of students from all over the country took classes on such themes as slacklining, suspension yoga and poses on paddleboards.

Teachers emphasized a creative or even artistic approach to yoga. They encouraged students to behave like circus artists, turning themselves upside down and practicing away from the conventional mat.

Near Copper Mountain at Wanderlust festival 2013 yoga teachers Chelsey Korus and Matt Giordano demonstrate acro-yoga. Both teachers taught and performed at this year's festival in Snowmass Village near Aspen.

The first Wanderlust Festival was in Squaw Valley, California, in 2009. It has grown to include 17 annual events in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Chile.
