If you’ve seen a 1973 movie called “The Paper Chase” you know how law students are traditionally taught: Under what’s called the Socratic Method, they spend much of their time memorizing and reciting case law.
But today’s employers are pressing law schools to give students more practical experience. To meet that demand, the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System (IAALS) at the University of Denver is leading a nationwide consortium of law schools in encouraging professors to change their teaching methods. The program’s called Educating Tomorrow’s Lawyers. At its heart is a website where professors who have new ideas can demonstrate them and those who need new approaches can find them.
