The debt ceiling debate has given new life to the idea of a balanced budget amendment. This is something Republican Congressman Mike Coffman, of Littleton, has been a huge supporter of. He founded and chairs the balanced budget amendment caucus. Tomorrow, Republicans in the House plan to bring a proposed amendment to the floor. Democrats are lining up against it, partly because it includes a spending cap and limits on Congress’ ability to raise taxes. Democratic support is key because any proposal would need a supermajority in the House and Senate. Unlike some in the GOP, Mike Coffman does not think this plan has to be a condition of raising the debt ceiling. CPR's Ryan Warner asked him if this proposal faces long odds.
