Colorado Charity Celebrates 125 Years

The United Way is one of the largest charities in the world. But 125 years ago, it started as a small organization in Colorado. As some struck it rich in mining, others struggled to get food on the table. So a group of concerned citizens, in the fledgling city of Denver, stepped in and formed what was originally called the “Charitable Association Society.” Christine Benero is the head of what’s now Mile High United Way. She spoke with CPR’s Andrea Dukakis.
