Recently, state lawmakers got to their desks and found a copy of a new report on education. It came from Speaker of the House Andrew Romanoff. He read it and thought it could get people talking about changing academics in the state. That report is called, Tough Choices or Tough Times. Its author, Marc Tucker, argues American students are ill-prepared to compete for jobs in an age of outsourcing and low wages. He proposes controversial reforms like ending high school at 10th grade for some students while expanding pre-school, and letting states – rather than local districts – control public education. Tucker is president of the National Center on Education and the Economy. He, and Romanoff, talk to Ryan Warner.
