Costilla County Runs Successful Biodiesel Plant

Listen Now

Recently Colorado Matters covered the demise of a plant in southwestern Colorado that was supposed to produce biodiesel. That was the San Juan Biofuels plant in Dove Creek, which closed mostly because of the recession. Today we’re going to talk about a similar plant in another rural part of the state. It's in Costilla County, in south central Colorado. That’s one of the five poorest counties in the state. Like San Juan Biofuels, it uses local crops. But the difference is this plant is still running. Plant manager Ben Doon speaks with Ryan Warner.
