Homicide investigators sometimes bring a special scanner to crime scenes to create a 3-D representation of, for example, the room where a body was found. Once the scene is cleaned up and the police tape is removed, they have a virtual version to go back to. Now the University of Colorado-Denver is pioneering another use. That is to precisely inventory historical sites in the west. Kat Vlahos directs UC-Denver’s Center of Preservation Research. She speaks with Ryan Warner.
