Advocates for embryonic stem cell research, including Colorado Democrat Diana DeGette, were surprised this week when Judge Royce Lamberth blocked an executive order expanding federal funding for the research. The judge ruled that current funding violates legislation from the 1990s. The White House is appealing, and meanwhile DeGette is reintroducing a bill in Congress to update the law on stem cell research.
