Houston-Based energy company Sithe Global hopes to break ground next year on the Desert Rock Energy Project. The proposed coal-fired power plant would be build just south of the Colorado state line, in northwestern New Mexico on Najavo land. The company says Desert Rock will be the cleanest coal plant ever build, but opponents, many in and around Durango, say air and water quality will suffer. Ryan Warner talks to reporter Victor Locke of KSUT Radio in Ignacio; Frank Maisano, a spokesman for Sithe Global; and Mark Pearson, executive director of the Durango-based San Juan Citizens Alliance, which opposes the power plant.
