Officials say a flu outbreak among patients at a veterans nursing home in Grand Junction has prompted them to close the facility to most visitors.

VA Medical Center spokesman Paul Sweeney said Sunday that 10 of the 27 patients in the facility tested positive for the virus.

Sweeney says the nursing operation, known as the Community Living Center, will likely be off-limits to visitors for two or three days. He says exceptions will be made for people visiting patients in hospice care near the end of their lives.

Sweeney says other facilities at the hospital remain open to visitors.

In addition to hospice care, the Community Living Center provides strengthening programs for patients before or after surgery and physical rehabilitation.
