Businesses like repeat customers. But if the business you’re running is a hospital, repeat customers could indicate the care you’re providing isn’t up to snuff. That’s certainly how the federal government sees it, which is why the health care law penalizes hospitals with high re-admissions rates.

Eric Whitney covers health for CPR and he’s been reporting on this in recent weeks, particularly the angle that Colorado hospitals were penalized less than those in other states. But here’s something unexpected: these hospitals in the state don’t necessarily agree with the criteria they were praised for meeting.
