Inside the U.S. Air Force Academy

Listen Now

Back in 2003, Reporter Diana Schemo covered the sexual assault scandal at the U.S. Air Force Academy for the New York Times. Several years later, she returned to the academy for an in-depth look at the institution through the eyes of a group of freshmen. Schemo followed the students from their first hours at the academy, as they leave their families and their civilian lives behind, through the grueling weeks of basic training to the moment at the end of the year when they are finally accepted as fully trained cadets. Schemo’s recently published account is called, "Skies to Conquer: A Year Inside the Air Force Academy." (Originally aired June 4, 2010)
