On a recent show, we talked about older drivers -- the tension between safety and independence. It can be a real loss of independence if an elderly person has to stop driving; but it can be a real hazard to continue. In that story, we heard from 80-year-old Georgia Ptacek, of Aurora. She told us she had taken a course especially designed for older drivers. That prompted listener Larry McLaughlin, also of Aurora, to send us an e-mail. “I wish Ryan would have mentioned the name of the driver course [she] took. My bet is it was the AARP Driver Safety Program.” Larry was right. It turns out Larry, who’s 71, has been teaching that course for more than 10 years. [Photo: Valeriana Solaris]
