In a world filled with instant messages and blogs, Denver artist Jake Weidmann is old school. He prefers to put pen to paper. Not yet 30 years old, he's one of only 11 "master penmen" in the world. That's an old title that was given to career design artists who were needed to log books and draw up documents in the era before typewriters were common. The best of the best penmen were dubbed "master" and uphold a long tradition. His pieces blend calligraphy, drawing and painting into powerful, somewhat mystical statements. One of Weidmann's works ("Indivisible," above) is on display at the Crawford Hotel at the newly opened Denver Union Station. He speaks about his craft on "Colorado Matters."
