State lawmakers are wrapping up work on a package of 10 bills meant to address concerns over police brutality in Colorado and around the country.
Of those original 10, six of the bills have passed or are close to passing. Those include a measure to protect citizen’s right to videotape police activity and one which makes it harder for an officer with a history of misconduct to hide that record when applying for other law enforcement jobs.
But in a somewhat surprising move, a Senate committee killed two other measures Friday morning. One would have helped police departments purchase body cameras. The other would have required police cadets get anti-bias and de-escalation training.
Both measures passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support but Senators on the Appropriations committee said they were concerned about cost.
