The Museum of Broken Relationships

Listen Now

Now, an art exhibit we’re betting most people can relate to. It’s called the Museum of Broken Relationships, and it’s at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art for one more week. Associate curator Petra Sertic came across the exhibit in Croatia, and brought it here. The show’s creators -- an artist and a film producer -- were breaking up, and wanted to do something with the objects that symbolized their life together. They designed a living exhibit, meaning people have donated their own break-up artifacts: letters, cell phones, stuffed animals. At a reception the other night, Sertic told CPR’s Elaine Grant that while there are ceremonies for marriages, deaths, birthdays, we have no rituals for breakups.
