Zenzinger fills the seat of Evie Hudak, who resigned rather than face a recall election, mostly over her vote for gun laws.
Zenzinger says she'll focus on education, economic development and transportation.
"This is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for me, so I’m very excited to get to work," she told her colleagues in brief remarks on the Senate floor after the swearing in. "I know that I've established a reputation for myself in the local government arena for being known for having a collaborative spirit, and I hope to bring that to these chambers."
By resigning instead of facing a recall election, Hudak assured Democrats would retain a one-seat majority in the state Senate at least until next November’s election. This fall, two other Democratic senators were recalled in large part because of their votes for gun laws.
Minority Leader Bill Cadman, a Republican, took a moment to recognize Hudak's work. "Senator Hudak on behalf of this institution I wish you well on all of your future endeavors, and we all thank you for your service," Cadman said.
Hudak tweeted, "Thanks Bill!"
