It used to be that when veterans came home from war, they turned to the American Legion or the VFW. But today, despite a whole bunch of new vets, these groups are struggling to survive. The American Legion, for one, is reaching out to this new population. Many of these returning veterans are in desperate need of support. Dan Shannon, of Westcliffe, sure was. And he’s now spreading the word about the legion because it made a huge difference for him. Shannon spoke with CPR’s Andrea Dukakis.
