Parking Spaces To Become Parks

Listen Now

City government doesn’t always move as fast as residents might like. Maybe there’s a small change that would make a big difference in your neighborhood, but wading through the bureaucracy to change it doesn’t appeal, or a strapped city simply doesn’t have the money to make the change. There’s a movement called “tactical urbanism,” and the idea is to change things fast, even if it’s not through the proper channels. You can get a taste of tactical urbanism later this month. September 21st is (Park)ing Day. People will take over parking spaces and turn them into mini-parks. Host Ryan Warner talks about the event, and this movement in general, with Michelle Pyle. She’s a tactical urbanist and a senior city planner for Denver. So, she has a foot in both worlds.
