Prosecutors Weigh Charges Against RTD Operator Behind Last Month’s R Line Crash

Prosecutors in the 18th Judicial District are weighing whether to press assault charges against a former RTD light rail driver involved in a crash last month.

Multiple passengers were injured when an R Line train derailed in Aurora at the intersection of South Sable Boulevard and East Exposition Avenue. One person's foot was severed off.

The Aurora Police Department finished its investigation and recommended nine different assault charges against the driver. A spokeswoman for the district attorney's office said there's no timeline for their decision.

RTD fired the operator last week, saying the train was going too fast.
