A handful of gallery owners along Denver's Santa Fe Drive organized an arts district in 2003. Now more than 40 galleries, cafes and other shops line Santa Fe and nearby streets, attracting crowds in the thousands for First Friday artwalks. Sidewalks are crowded and parking can be difficult on those Friday nights, and the art district's success has brought changes to the neighborhood you can see during the rest of the month, too. Colorado Public Radio's Mike Lamp talks with Jack Pappalardo, a gallery co-owner and president of the arts district, and Grant Bennett, with the La Alma / Lincoln Park Neighborhood Association, whose residents have seen their area become one of Denver's cultural hot spots.
