The Silverton Standard & the Miner is the oldest newspaper west of the Continental Divide. For years it’s been the town’s only source of local news. That’s an essential service in a mountain town that gets cut off by avalanches and accidents on winding mountain roads. Well, the weekly paper has been recognized as a Historic Site in Journalism. But keeping the Standard alive hasn’t been easy. Ryan Warner talks with publisher and editor Mark Esper.
