Visit Colorado’s Mountains: See If You Get Sick

Listen Now

It probably happens to people who visit you. You might’ve even experienced it when you moved here. We’re talking about altitude sickness. And it’s not just a concern for tourists. The military’s also interested in why some troops have a real problem in high altitudes while others do just fine. The University of Colorado Denver has been been recruiting young people for an experiment to figure this out. The subjects are all from Dallas, Texas--which is about at sea level. The participants get a weekend in the Colorado mountains, and some cash, if they’ll agree to participate. Ryan Warner speaks with Robert Roach, who heads up the Altitude Research Center at UC Denver.
