CPR’s Arts Bureau shares a few cultural events happening across the state for the entire family to experience in June and July.

Discovery Zone
Opens June 7
Denver Museum of Nature and Science

The museum's new "Discovery Zone" aims to develop children’s observation, critical thinking, creativity and communication skills through hands-on activities and interactive games. Kids can climb on life-size dinosaurs in the "Dinosaur Gulch," build structures in the "Construction Coroner" and conduct their own scientific experiments in the "Science Kitchen."

20th Annual International Summer Dance Institute
June 23 to July 25
Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theatre

For five weeks this summer, the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance School's International Summer Dance Institute will offer workshops for kids, teens and adults. Instructors from the School, as well as international guest teachers, will lead classes in a variety of dance genres that span many cultures, including African dance, hip-hop and Bollywood.

AURORA:

Draw Me a Monster
June 8, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Coffee Place - Neighborhood Cafe

This fundraising event is a collaboration between The Coffee Place - Neighborhood Cafe in Aurora and Colorado visual artist Daniel W. Sorensen. During the event, Sorensen will create sketches of creatures pulled from his imagination, which will be available for purchase. All proceeds go to benefit DAVA, a nonprofit that provides free arts education and after-school programming to Aurora students.

Summer Reading Program
May 31 to July 26
Aurora Public Library

This annual, summer-long event features in-library storytime sessions, magic and circus performances, crafts and prizes to inspire families to read. This year’s programming is focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM.)

Wild West Day

This one-day event invited families to hop aboard a steam locomotive from the 1880s, make their own Old West deputy badges in the craft area and watch outlaws and lawmen recreate olden times with re-enactments of fast-draw shooting contests and train robberies.

ASPEN:

"Dance for Kids!” featuring Diavolo Dance Theatre

Aspen District Theatre

California-based theatrical dance troupe Diavolo Dance Theatre brings its highly athletic, acrobatic choreography and elaborate sets to Aspen this summer. This hour-long matinee performance is suitable for all ages.
