Slowdive to reunite, play Primavera Sound Festival
British band Slowdive announced a London reunion show, their first in almost 20 years. The shoegaze pioneers will also play the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona this May. Singer Neil Halstead also hinted at the possibility of the band playing new material in an interview with The Quietus.
New albums: Swans, Cloud Nothings, Major Lazer, Wye Oak, Afghan Whigs
Bands who announced new music this week:
- Swans will release “To Be Kind,” an album over two hours long that features vocals from St. Vincent’s Annie Clark, on May 13 to follow-up 2012’s highly acclaimed “The Seer;”
- Indie rockers Cloud Nothings will release their fourth full-length “Here and Nothing Else” on April 1
- Dancehall outfit Major Lazer announced five-song EP “Apocalypse Soon” for release on February 25
- Indie folk duo Wye Oak will release “Shriek” on April 29 through Merge;
- Afghan Whigs announced their first album in 16 years, “Do to the Beast,” out via Sub Pop on April 15

Mike Doughty releases electronica tracks featuring vocals from Elliott Smith
Former Soul Coughing frontman Mike Doughty shared three previously unreleased tracks from his electronica project UUL that feature the late singer-songwriter Elliott Smith on vocals. The vocals were recorded in the late 1990s and were lost for some time, until Doughty discovered them late last year. The three tracks are a vast departure from Smith's musical style, and are available for streaming via Doughty's Soundcloud site. [via Pitchfork]
