Three members of Deer Tick stopped by CPR's OpenAir for a Guest DJ session before a recent three-show stint in Colorado.

The Providence, R.I., quartet released two new albums in September: "Deer Tick Vol. 1" and "Deer Tick Vol. 2." Each LP shows off a different side of the band's sound: The former is a softer acoustic folk record, while the latter features gritty rock 'n roll.

Guitarist Ian O’Neil, bassist Chris Ryan and drummer Dennis Ryan's Guest DJ picks included a deep cut from Bruce Springsteen, a Big Star classic and more. They also spoke with Bruce Mitchell about the work behind their recent double release.

Stream the Guest DJ interview above. Interview highlights:

Bassist Chris Ryan on the Deer Tick song "Sea Of Clouds":

"It's a fitting opening number for 'Vol. 1' because it really does introduce everyone to you individually. ... It's a raucous arrangement for kind of a quiet song."

Chris Ryan on recording at Ardent Studios in Memphis:

"There's plenty of new, really beautiful recording studios. But this place had an office, a receptionist, technicians. ... It does really feel like you're in 1978 when you're inside of there. There's still ashtrays installed into the walls. It's a trip and you get really comfortable really fast."
