OpenAir recently brought in Distant Correspondent to the CPR Performance Studio to perform a few tunes from their debut self-titled album. Fronted by David Obuchowski of New York metal band Goes Cube, Distant Correspondent are one of the many formidable acts on Denver's Hot Congress label. The five-piece's musical style is a far cry from Obuchowski's metal project: mid-tempo dream pop with reverb-soaked guitar, spoken word pieces, and melancholy vocal harmonies.
Scott Carney chatted with the band members about Distant Correspondent's origin, the influence of public radio on the project, and the unique long-distance collaboration process that went into the album's production.
