Marika Hackman: ‘Boyfriend’

Marika Hackman's debut album, "We Slept At Last," was mostly a collection of dreamy folk songs. But it contained moments of playfulness from the English singer-songwriter that hinted at the more rock-leaning direction of its follow-up.

Hackman signed to Sub Pop Records for her sophomore album, "I'm Not Your Man," out next month. Her backing band on the record is The Big Moon, another of England's most promising young indie acts. That group adds twisting guitar melodies to Hackman's leisurely vocals on the single "Boyfriend."

Marika Hackman performs Aug. 5 at Lost Lake Lounge in Denver.
