Shearwater, ‘Quiet Americans’

Shearwater, the indie project of singer and former Okkervil River member Jonathan Meiburg, will return early next year with the new album "Jet Plane and Oxbow." It's the band's first album of original material since 2012's "Animal Joy," and it's out Jan. 22 on Sub Pop.

The first single, "Quiet Americans," immediately marks a shift in musical direction for the long-running Austin, Texas, band. Long known for his ethereal folk records, Meiburg greets listeners with a synth riff akin to the work of electronic bands like Chvrches, though his striking baritone vocals remain a crux of the group's sound.
