The public broadcaster announces 2019 schedule changes and the addition of 17 new programs
Centennial, Colo. Jan 2, 2019 – Colorado Public Radio (CPR) today announced a revised news schedule that builds on the organization's commitment to be a primary local news source for Colorado, while also giving fresh attention to national programs that reflect the new and diverse voices shaping the future of public radio.
Starting January 14, Colorado Public Radio will add 17 national programs to its news schedule. Shows include notable favorites “The Daily” from The New York Times, as well as popular NPR productions like “Hidden Brain,” “Planet Money” and “How I Built This.” The full schedule is available here.
In addition to airing each national program, CPR will seek opportunities to host performance-based shows in Colorado so that audiences can enjoy live, in-person experiences. CPR is also building editorial partnerships with national programs, working hand-in-hand to elevate Colorado issues to a national audience. This follows a decade of collaborative work with NPR and other public media organizations to develop award-winning content that serves both local and national audiences. A recent example was the Taxman podcast, which was incubated through NPR’s Story Lab workshop and took home two bronze radio awards for best business podcast and best news and documentary podcast from the New York Festival Radio Awards.
“The new schedule is designed to connect listeners to a fresh public radio experience - one that celebrates diversity and innovations in storytelling, alongside the robust community-focused Colorado news that CPR is known for,” said President and CEO Stewart Vanderwilt. “As a result, listeners can expect to hear the most important news of the day, get access to the enduring programs they know and love and be exposed to new shows that are defining the future of public radio.”
Given the organization’s commitment to local news, CPR is also taking the opportunity to increase the accessibility of local, Colorado-focused content by moving it’s signature daily interview program, “Colorado Matters,” up an hour into drive-time listening.
