- A new initiative to streamline public transit information across the nation has launched, and the Colorado Department of Transportation is planning to participate. The initiative is called the National Transit Map, and its goal is to compile public transportation data, including localized bus and train routes and schedules, into a single repository.
- Woodland Park is kicking off its 125th anniversary celebration this weekend. The birthday celebration is expected to feature a chili luncheon as well as a presentation by historian Larry Black on the city’s past. There will be vintage photos of Woodland Park on display and attendees are invited to dress in period costumes.
- The music director at the Colorado Springs Philharmonic has renewed his contract indefinitely. The Philharmonic’s Board of Directors unanimously decided to extend Josep Caballé-Domenech’s contract, which was originally good through August. Nathan Newbrough is the President and CEO of the Philharmonic.
- Students in La Junta plan to visit Bent’s Old Fort Wednesday in order to virtually recreate its environment. KRCC’s Dana Cronin reports. Students from Otero Junior College and La Junta High School are expected to take measurements of the site in order to recreate it on the popular computer game Minecraft.
- A bill in Colorado’s Senate that seeks funding to help preserve Amtrak’s Southwest Chief route passed out of committee today on a 5-2 vote. This comes on the heels of a report from the state’s Southwest Chief Commission that says the original expected $40 million share to help save the long distance route has been
