Monday
Charley talks about how Schubert wrote the arpeggione sonata for a now-obsolete instrument with six strings. Pianist Hsing-ay Hsu and cellist Silver Ainomae of the Colorado Symphony perform music by Schubert on Tuesday at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Arvada.
Tuesday
Charley discusses the legacy of composer Samuel Barber and we hear a performance by violinist Anne Akiko-Meyers. She plays Barber's Violin Concerto this weekend with the Colorado Symphony.
WEDNESDAY
Charley talks about Prokofiev's family favorite, "Peter and the Wolf," and we hear a recording of the piece. It's set for a performance at the Colorado Symphony family concert on March 22 and by the Colorado Ballet March 27-29.
Thursday
A look at the history of the Aspen Music Festival, and a recording the festival featuring of Paisello's Mandolin Concerto featuring Avi Avital. CPR Classical is featuring the festival's winter recital series in live broadcasts, including a performance by pianist Vladimir Feltsman on Saturday.
FriDAY
Charley shares the biography of pianist Vladimir Feltsman, who became an international sensation when he fled the U.S.S.R. in the 1980s to pursue his music career. We'll hear an Aspen Music Festival recording of Feltsman playing Schubert's Sonata in D in anticipation of Feltsman's Saturday night performance live on CPR Classical.
