What does it mean to plan and prepare a classical music concert in the time of Black Lives Matter, #MeToo, and border walls? In lieu of in-person activities, the UNCommon Ensemble used the Fall 2020 semester to examine the roles of music and musicians in contemporary society, using a series of projects to reflect on how we engage with and respond to our communities. We discussed and put into practice topics of social justice, diversity and inclusion, relevance, reach, and more, culminating in a final online performance of works proposed and presented by the members of the ensemble. – Professor Vijay Chalasani
