Hilde Mandel, born in Poland. When the Nazis arrived in her village, they took over Mandel's home and forced the family to live in the kitchen. Eventually they were put into a ghetto and entered slave labor. After working one day, she escaped the march back to the ghetto and made her way to Berlin disguised as a Christian with a false Baptism certificate. She worked in a German factory until liberation by the Russians. She immigrated to the U.S. and lives in Sarasota, Fla.
